Summer has always been my favourite time of the year! When I started going to school, it got even better. The anticipation from the beginning of the year waiting till the last day of school is agonizing.

Coming out of the cold winter hibernation into the hot blossoming summer air with all the bright colours and the beautiful sounds of the birds returning especially the loon. Nothing says summer like the sound of a loon.

My favourite thing to do is lay on a dock with the hot sun beaming on my face, then jumping into the cool lake for a swim.

Summer is also a break for yourself! Going into a new grade can be a lot! Whether it be going into a higher grade in elementary, entering high school or about to graduate. It’s all so exciting and summer can help you prepare for that big change in your life.  It’s a time you can forget about the worries of school for a couple of months.

Getting out of the school routine of waking up early and getting work done to now sleeping in, staying up late to watch the night sky, hanging out with friends and family and being able to relax is the best!

Many kids get jobs for extra money or to help them in their potential future careers.

This summer I am hoping to work more, such as doing my local housesitting job. I’ve looked after many houses with pets and I really enjoy it. It gives me a chance to be on my own and focus on myself and what life might be like when I’m older and living alone.

I also have my resume out for a potential part-time job working with kids.

Teachers also look forward to the summer, however many work part-time in other jobs.

“I try to go outside and be outside as much as possible, so lots of biking, lots of hiking and lots of canoeing mostly,” Peter Skene Ogden Secondary School teacher Ken Mackenzie explained, as he is a very outdoorsy guy and is always finding ways to get some fresh summer air.

“I’m hoping to do wildfire training, so I’m definitely looking forward to getting some work in,” Grade 12 graduate Isabella Robins said.

Hopefully, this summer will bring lots of warm weather and no forest fires!
