Mountain Spruce Community Centre’s Sulphurous/Hathaway Fishing Derby on Saturday, Aug. 3 was a resounding success with a huge crowd at the prizes’ event and a total of 68 fish reeled in, not one of which was a rainbow trout.

Sulphurous saw 41 kokanee weighed in, with John Lauzon placing first with his 2lb 15.3oz specimen. Five places received derby prizes, with August Blonal coming second at 2lb 15oz; Austen Nash third at 2lb 12.3oz; then Louie Martin, 2lb 12oz; and Ken Massie, 2lb 11.8oz.

At Hathaway, Terry Endersby placed first, second and fourth of 24 kokanee, his three weighing 1lb 15.3oz, 1lb 15.1oz and 1lb 10.6oz. Germaine Roberston placed third, 1lb 11.1oz;  and Adrian Staff fifth at 1lb 10.2oz.

Lake trout/burbot from Hathaway Lake winners were Marcie Tamonte, 7lb 3.3oz burbot; Julia Mavrect’s lake trout at 1lb 14oz; and Cam Bauder’s lake trout weighing 1lb 8.9oz.

The very happy raffle prize winners comprised Marce Desmeules of Deka Lake who won the Bradley smoker; Deka’s Cathy Zentner, the custom firepit; and Sulphurous Lake’s Kevin Ling, the 10’ sit-on kayak.

MSCC is most grateful to the many businesses and individuals who supported the derby with prizes and contributions. They also appreciate all those who bought tickets, and the many volunteers who worked so hard to provide such a successful community event.
