To the editor:
I am writing in regards to I. Schreifels’ reaction in the page A12 letter, headlined Reader tired of straw man arguments, in the March 13 edition of the Free Press to Dr. Gordon Laity’s understandable concern about the muzzling of government scientists page A9 letter, headlined Wrong for Tories to muzzle scientists, in the March 6 Free Press.
It got me wondering which metaphor might be most apposite: the ostrich with its head in the sand, or the three monkeys that see, hear, or speak no evil.
I decided on the ostrich, as it achieves all three at once.
