Hopefully, the snowflake times are over and gentle bits of much-needed rain will start. The lack of moisture is a concern as there have been some wildfires already in the area.

The thieves in the area sure were gutsy by tearing off the front gate at the Lac La Hache Transfer Station and stealing the 580 Case backhoe loader. The transfer station is closed one day per week and that is when this all happened. The good news is that the loader was located a short distance away and not damaged.

Did everyone get an opportunity to see the wonderful write-up about our young budding artist, Raina Rees? She did an awesome job painting murals at the home location and on her father’s food truck. Pete’s House Home Style Cooking is now open every day from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., stop on by for a delicious treat and check out the murals!

Once again, the Spring Fling of Homemade Things was a total success! Lots of vendors, lots of shoppers and a terrific organization of this fundraiser for the Cariboo Pioneer Centre.

Folks had a wonderful time guessing when ice off would be in the area and lots of photos were submitted on the different sites on Facebook. Seems to me April 12 was the date or remarkably close to that.

Last month I told you about the drive-thru coffee shack that was located at Frank’s Custom Meats – well I guess it has turned mobile now and most recently it has moved to the Lac La Hache Bakery location. When you think about it, that makes sense to stop and pick up your goodies and grab a coffee on the way out.

The Thrift Store has reopened for the season, opening day April 5 was like a zoo with tons of shoppers around and a full parking lot. Business has remained brisk throughout the month; everyone loves the vast variety and selection of items available. Thumbs up to Judy and her gals for a job well done!

Bingo also resumed on April 10 and attendance has remained steady at +50 each week. As of last week, two of the jackpots have been won, but the largest one is still intact and growing each week. The big jackpots in Williams Lake have been won now and we have picked up an additional 20 or so players this last week all hoping to be the lucky one. The more people that attend the bigger the prizes!

There has been more maintenance work happening at the arena. People have been very generous and the list is quite long for the thanks now – firstly to all the volunteers that give freely of their time, South Cariboo Motor Sports donated a battery for the Zamboni, Al Richmond for his assistance in getting a great price for the new scoreboard, Norm and Diane Wood for the use of their tractor for the scoreboard installation, Vern for the use of scaffolding, Dale at 100 Mile New and Used Parts for the five gallons of hydraulic fluid, Blake Liddle for hauling away all the garbage away from the arena, Performance All Terrain and Rentals for the man lift rental fee and to Antle towing for hauling the man lift.

All these donations are appreciated and help us in our operations. The plan for the use of the arena for the summer months is for the pickle ballers. They currently are doing a general clean-up of the arena, washing the floors and patiently waiting for the concrete repairperson to come and fix up the crack in the floor so that their playing season can start. Pickleball will be available in Lac La Hache for five days per week once the season starts up, stay tuned for the dates and times, please.

The crib tournament held on April 27 at the Cariboo Pioneer Centre hosted a smaller group this time around, only 24, but they were all very enthusiastic. New volunteers are always welcome to come and help. Contact Paul and Mary at 250-396-4093 if you have any questions.

The last Flea Market held on April 28 had a few new vendors including one outside in the parking lot. Folks were raving about the macaroni and cheese that was served for lunch! The next Flea market is scheduled for Sunday, May 26 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Simone from the Canada Post Office advises that the Community Foundation fundraising is in full swing! There is an opportunity to win some terrific prizes – Kuma 2-seater chair, Yeti mug and raffle baskets. Bake sales at the post office will be held May 9 to 10 and May 23 to 24 – if you would like to donate some baking, please sign up for the bake sale and drop off by 5 p.m. on the Wednesday before the date of the sale. Stop by on May 16 and try out some of Ivy’s Enchiladas, tacos, burritos, and homemade salsa.

Do not forget to stop by Cariboo Pioneer Centre on May 12 and enjoy the Mother’s Day pancake breakfast hosted by Pam King from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The price is set at $15 for adults and $10 for kids.

The Timothy Lake Road Community Association is holding their annual general meeting on May 18 at the Greeny Lake Volunteer Fire Department. Doors will open at 12:15 p.m. with the meeting scheduled to start at 1 p.m. Come early to pay your annual membership dues to be eligible to vote on any issue being brought forward. A special resolution regarding amendments to the constitution and bylaws will be held at this meeting.

Condolences go out to the family and friends of George Lee who passed away on April 23. Not only did the community lose a dear friend, director of the community club but also a wonderful willing volunteer who was so enthusiastic about the arena. George, you will be missed forever and always, rest in peace my friend.
