Giesbrecht voices concerns about meeting

Feels South Cariboo Joint Committee members were dismissive

To the editor:

This is the message that I would invite the District of 100 Mile House and the other members of the Cariboo Regional District Joint Committee to actively reflect on.

To present a two-and-a-half-year project done on volunteer time for the express purpose of bringing to their attention to the dismal state of hunger, especially of children in the South Cariboo, and to be met with a barrage of dismissive self-justification that they are doing things good enough and can’t be expected to do any more.

Well, it's time to accept that the status quo is not good enough, and it's time to develop the character and self-awareness to do a little better.

First, pay active and engaged attention to the knowledge and work that is in the community at large and do everything in their power to leverage it.

If, as it is claimed, it "costs more to administer grants that groups apply for than the grants are worth," there is some serious housekeeping called for.

It's time to step up.

The public can contact any of the organizations here for a copy of the South Cariboo Food Security and Sovereignty Plan.
