Residents of Deka Lake were delighted to see “Fishing with Rod,” “Life of Linda Lee” and The Fishing Highway 24 Tourist Association at Big Deka on June 4. During filming, Mike Ramsay, the Cariboo region’s senior biologist explained the ins and outs of Go Fish BC’s stocking programme, noting that biologists determine how many fish each lake can grow, and maximize their abundance and average size so that anglers can enjoy consistent success—to the daily limit of five fish. Around 150,000 kokanee fry are released into Deka each year, usually in May and, after growing for some 30 months, they average 1.5 to 2 lbs.
Mountain Spruce Community Centre (MSCC)
MSCC reminds everyone that all dogs MUST be leashed in Mountain Spruce Park. They are not permitted to roam free and/or chase the myriad wildlife, including the newborn babies. Enjoy them from a distance and be safe.
Deka Lake & District Ratepayer's Association (DLRDA)
The DLDRA appreciates the volunteers who helped with the picnic tables. The old broken ones have been removed and replaced. None of them were salvageable. If you find others needing attention, please let DLDRA know.
Fishing Highway 24 Tourist Association (FH24)
FH24’s third Annual June fishing derby is ongoing until June 30, so sign up soon! All tickets are $5, sold cash only at each of the participating resorts: Cariboo Bonanza, Fawn Lake, Loon Bay, Moosehaven, Sheridan Lake, and Sulphurous. Buy a ticket to fish at any or all, and go for it! Prizes are gift certificate percentages (25, 15, 10) of all proceeds, whilst 50 per cent goes to the Lakekeepers Project of the BC Lake Stewardship Society.
Interlakes Horse Club
The Interlakes Horse Club needs youth to volunteer and earn their hours at the Youth Bottle Drive Fundraiser, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, June 21 at Interlakes Rodeo Grounds. Please reach out to Erica Lemak with any questions or to volunteer!
