Is it just me or does it seem like November whizzed by super-fast? We started the month off with a skiff of snow and we still have that on the ground. However, there were attempts at changing that during the month. We seem to have gone through a period of chilly weather but now it has warmed up again. At one point the north end of Lac La Hache was freezing over with ice forming on the shores of the lake!
As to the events that happened during November, they all seem to have been a tremendous success.
The Christmas Bazaar and Craft Fair was a remarkably busy place to be with opportunities for an early start to Christmas shopping.
The attendance at the special turkey dinner with all the fixings at the Cariboo Pioneer Centre was slightly lower this year with only forty meals served. The food was excellent, and everyone had an enjoyable time.
The Remembrance Day service was short but very meaningful with a good attendance of approximately 70 people. There were songs sung and the sharing of memoirs. Many thanks to all those who participated in this event, making it super special. The social hour held at the Cariboo Pioneer Centre immediately after the service was enjoyed by all. Refreshments were served as well as the special poppy cookies that had been made by Hetty Olszewski.
The Community Club meeting was well attended. Great news from there, the hall floors will be restored during the wintertime/bingo break and new flooring is planned for the kitchen area. The next meeting will be held on Jan. 21, 2025. Please feel free to come and join us, membership is only $5 per year.
The Flea Market was an enormous success with every table rented out. There were so many different vendors in attendance this time around. It was a shopper’s delight! The concession served a delicious lunch, meatball subs and fries…. mm good!
The crib tournament’s attendance held steady in the mid-30s. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the fellowship, the playing of cards and certainly the delicious spaghetti lunch.
The Lac La Hache Volunteer Fire Department has its Christmas Food Hamper in full swing right now. Donation boxes are in many of the local businesses. The cutoff date for submitting a name for a needy family is Dec. 9 with delivery on Dec. 18. Please call 250-396-4112 to submit a name or to make arrangements for a cash donation.
The Greeny Lake Volunteer Fire Department held its AGM on Nov. 24. The new board members are – Doug Witty – President, Ann Husdon – Vice President, Alenka Middleton – Treasurer and Kim Clark-McKay as Secretary. Richard Clark-McKay was appointed the Fire Chief for a three-year period. There is a possibility of a couple of fishing derbies in the works with one being held in late February and one in the summer. More details will be available closer to the time of the events. The Volunteer Fire Department is actively looking for new volunteer firefighters, please contact them if you are interested. Condolences go to the family and friends of Marilyn Rose who recently passed away. There will be a life celebration at the Pioneer Centre on Dec. 10 at 2 p.m.
The Rolf Zeis Arena is the busiest place in town! There are hockey practices for the Old Timers Hockey League, drop-in hockey on Fridays and public skating on Sundays. Shelving (racks) has been donated by Brian Hopkins of Lakeshore Mechanical for the organization and storage of the many pairs of skates that are available for use. Big Sky was successful in their bid for fixing the arena roof, I have seen them working on two separate occasions. To date, I have not heard whether the work has been completed. If people have seen a post asking for odd bits of metal sheeting – that was for a fix-up project at the back of the arena, not on our roof.
The events coming up in December are - Flea Market on Dec. 8 at the Community Hall from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., come on out and check out the vendors, I hear that it will be a full house again. And not only that – I hear that the same Santa will be in attendance as last year, but it will also be a treat to come and meet this special person.
At this time, I am not sure of the exact date when Santa will attend the Public Skating, please stay tuned for that date. Check the sites - What’s Up LLH as well as The Community Club website/Rolf Zeis Website.
Shane Abramson will be offering sleigh rides around Christmas time. The family rate will be $50, and reservations will be required. Please contact Shane at 250-644-2245
Please stay tuned for notices on websites about other events coming up, school Christmas concerts, church services and other events.
Merry Christmas everyone – please stay safe if out. I will be chatting again after New Years.
