A horrible way to treat a cat

Inhumane treatment of cat at landfill sickens reader

To the editor:

On Feb 17, I was sickened to learn of a sick cat in the Watch Lake landfill.

This older brown cat was thrown into the garbage trench in a black Safeway reusable bag like a bag of trash. The cat was crying loudly, and upon further investigation, it was located and found to be in very rough shape.

It could not get out of the bag itself. It had one damaged eye and was cold and scared.

Why would anyone dispose of a family pet in this manner?

Any animal disposed of like this will just die a slow, agonizing death from starvation, dehydration, hypothermia or by a predator. There are other ways to deal with sick or unwanted animals.

I hope whoever did this has a big case of guilt and shame.

The animal should have been taken to the local vet clinic to be put down in a humane manner or you could have contacted the SPCA to find out what your options were.

This kind of thing happens much too often. In a civilized world like the one we live in, there is no excuse for anyone to do this to a poor helpless animal.
