1919-2009

Shorty died peacefully on March 28, 2009 in the 100 Mile and District Hospital after a short and courageous battle with complications following an illness and surgery. He was born to Hartwig and Anna Horn at their homestead at Fawn, BC (now known as Lone Butte) on November 23, 1919. Shorty lived his entire life within ten miles of his birthplace, a fact he was very proud of.

Shorty married Alice Eden, of Watch Lake, in June of 1943 and they raised their three daughters, Dimps (Enid), Rita, and Doreen at Watch Lake Lodge running a guest ranch business and cow/calf operation. Shorty also operated a livestock trucking business which he loved being part of. He was happiest when working and “on his wheels” whatever they may have been!!

Shorty was very active in all aspects of the Community. He was instrumental in the development of the now historic Watch Lake-Green Lake Gymkhanas, the Volunteer Fire Department; of which he was the first Fire Chief and he was also instrumental in the formation of the Community Association. For many years Shorty was a supporter and leaser of the Clinton 4-H Beef Club and many other community activities and events. Shorty was proud of his community, through good times and bad he always worked for the overall good of the community.

Shorty is survived by his brother Chris (Helen) Horn, cousin Anna (Norman) Granberg, daughters; Dimps, Rita (Ted) Pincott and Doreen (Bob) Teichgrab, grandchildren; D’Arcy (Shelley) Higgs, Tal (Mandy) Pincott, Kent (Becky) Pincott, Levi Picott (Susi), Wayne Pincott (Tiffany), Alina Teichgrab, Bradley (Katherine) Teichgrab, great grandchildren; Liam Higgs, Mason, Owen, Iavan, and Kaleese Pincott, sister-in-law Enid Sheepbouwer, brother–in-law Ross Eden along with many, many nieces and nephews.

Shorty was predeceased by his loving wife Alice in 1999, his brothers Stanley and Arthur as well as brother-in-law Don Eden.
