November 1, 1933 - May 12 2008

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandma, sister and auntie. Sophie was born in St. Michael, Alberta to Josephine and Edmund Nast and was the youngest of five children. She was raised in a convent from the age of 10. She joined the Air Force as a young woman and shortly after met the love of her live, Vern Zelt. They married on Sept. 28, 1957. Their first four children were born in Edmonton,

then they moved to 100 Mile House in 1970, where their fifth child was born. Tragically in 1977 ,Vern passed away leaving Mom to raise her family on her own. Mom dealt with many hardships throughout her life, Crohn’s disease being one of her biggest challenges. Nothing was as important to Mom as her family, whom she always put first. Mom enjoyed fishing, camping, Canuck games, and her grandchildren’s activities, always with a coffee in hand. Well known to the community, Mom’s smiling face greeted many customers as she managed the Rangeland theatre for over 20 years. Mom valued raising her family in the friendly town of 100 Mile House. She was a proud member of the St. Jude’s Catholic Woman’s League for 38 years. Mom’s strong faith in God inspired us all, bringing her comfort and strength in her

courageous battle with cancer. Mom is truly our hero and will live on in our hearts forever. Sadly missed by her children and grandchildren: Cindy, (Doug), Kyle; Laurie (Rick), Brock, Amanda, Morgan; Murray, (Rene), Jackie, Jeremy; Judy, (Rob), Matthew, Meghan; Terry, (Darin), Mariah, Martina; sister Deanna, (Vic), Carl, Leslie and families, sister-in-law Lucille and son Terry, along with many in-laws, nieces and nephews. Pre-deceased by her parents, husband Vernon, brothers Joseph and Richard, sister Theresa and nephew Albert. A prayer service will be held Wed. May 21, 7:00 pm at St. Judes Catholic Church. The memorial mass, Thurs. May 22, 1:00 pm at St. Judes. Interment and tea to follow. A sincere thank you to everyone for their support, prayers, flowers, and food during this difficult time. Special thanks to Father Ken, the CWL for the reception, and to Mark Doolan for helping with the slideshow. Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Nicholson, Dr. Hutchinson, Debbie Lundeen, Colleen Welton, hospital nurses and staff and the Home Support Care aids for their kindness. Thank you Meg and Shane Gunn. Donations gratefully accepted to the Crohns Foundation or the Cancer Society, in Sophie’s memory.
