February 10, 1938 - November 12, 2024
In loving memory ~
Born in Soestdyk, Netherlands on February 10, 1938, to Cornelis and Maria Van Dyk (Scharrenburg), Simon was one of four boys. After his first marriage ended, Cornelis remarried Antonia Spruit. In the spring of 1952, the family immigrated to Canada, settling in Aurora, Ontario, where the family grew to 12 children.
Simon married Antonia Freriks in 1961 and together they had two daughters. Always dreaming of being a cowboy, Simon packed up his family and moved out West, eventually settling in 100 Mile House where Simon lived out the rest of his days. From cowboy to mill worker, gardener, and more, Simon was a man of many trades.
Even in retirement, Simon remained active. He volunteered in the community, took up quilting, and was a familiar face at local rodeos and hockey games.
Simon passed away peacefully on November 12, 2024, at the age of 86. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Antonia Van Dyk; daughters Deb Runge (Paula) and Carolyn Cushing (Rob); and grandchildren Megan (Devan), Sarah (Sam), Lauren (Brandon), and Connor. He is also survived by numerous brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held at CCLF at the 108 Ranch on January 4, 2025, at 1:00 PM. The family requests Western attire if possible.
"Gone to greener pastures where the sunsets never fade."
