Ross Marks passed away peacefully in the 100 Mile House Hospital on Tuesday, January 27th, after a rapid decline from cancer. He was 81. Ross befriended many with his upbeat personality, honest, straightforward manner, insatiable curiosity and fervent enthusiasm.

In 1948 Ross left Agricultural College, in his hometown of Toronto, for a job at Lord Martin Cecil’s Bridge Creek Estate Cattle Ranch in 100 Mile House.

As time went on, Ross undertook many other roles in the community and beyond: Magistrate, Coroner, Fire Chief, Mayor, Minister; the Chairman of the Cariboo Regional District; President of the Union of BC Municipalities; Commissioner, Federal Task Force on Canadian Unity; Director, Municipal Finance Authority of BC; Executive Member, Canadian Federation of Municipalities; Director, BC Assessment Authority and Director, Canada Mortgage & Housing Corporation.

At 78, Ross semi-retired as the Managing Director of Bridge Creek Companies. However, he continued as a Board Member on the South Cariboo Health Foundation and was also active with the 100 Mile Rotary Club.

Ross is survived by his loving wife Marcia; sister Carolyn; children Ken (Brenda), Kevin, Barbara (Russ), Alison (Andrew); grandchildren: Julian, Sara, Braighton, Alex, Kenzie and Nicole.
