In Loving Memory ~
It is with heavy hearts that we his friends announce the passing of our buddy, Bob Martin. On January 19th, Bobby passed away peacefully in 100 Mile Hospital after a brave battle with cancer and debilitating arthritis.
Bob is survived by many friends and family including his son Robby Martinuk, brothers Tom and Harold Martin. He was predeceased by his parents and cousin, Vic Martin.
He was born and went to school in New Westminster B.C. and enjoyed his childhood in the Queensboro and South Burnaby areas. Involving himself in adventures that included sailing up and down the west coast as far south as Zihuatanejo, Mexico.
Bob settled down to finally work at jobs that used his varied talents, such as foundries, tugs, and fishboats. He connected in 100 Mile with his boyhood friend Dave Jollymour and worked in the tax return business for awhile.
Greener pastures beckoned when he and his cousin Vic Martin, bought the property in Lone Butte and built and ran the Iron Horse Pub and Grill in the late 80's.
One of his favourite pastimes was salmon fishing on the Bella Coola river with his many buddies. Bob had the distinction of being a "Gilley" that is a captain of the driftboat, safely using his oars to get down the rushing, turbulent and dangerous river in search of the elusive cohoe.
Along with his close friend and fellow"Gilley", Gordie Brownell, for over 35 years we experienced Nirvana every September and October on the river. Sadly, life changes and good things come to an end but the memories we have are ours forever.
Bobby was a longtime member of Legion 260 and will be sorely missed by his fellow members of the Knowledge table. He had a reputation of being a bit stubborn but when someone was in need, you could count on him to help.
He will be missed, but he is really not gone, he's just gone fishin. No service by his request.
