It is with profound grief and sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved husband and father. Rene passed peacefully in his sleep on Christmas Eve in the 100 Mile Hospital. Rene was born in Luyksgestel, Nord Brabant, Netherlands on December 28, 1919. He immigrated to Canada at the age of 7 and the family took up homestead in Manor Saskatchewan, prior to moving to their farm in Carlyle. Rene enlisted in the Army in Regina and joined the VIII Recce in 1940. He was a Sergeant at the time he was demobilized at the end of the hostilities. He fought in France, Germany and Holland and was there for the Liberation of these countries in 1945. And served overseas. When he returned from the war he settled in the Manor area prior to moving to B.C. He eventually moved to the Cariboo and resided at South Green Lake. He was active in the community at Green Lake and a member of South Green Lake Fire Dept, Green Lake Snowmobile Club. He was Past President of the Manor Legion and a current member of the 100 Mile Legion. Dad loved the outdoors, camping, fishing, snowmobiling and his ATV. He was an avid fisherman, gardener and achieved excellence in a variety of trades in auto body, farming, and carpentry. These skills he passed down to his sons. As we grew up we often heard this motto which he instilled in us these few words “If you can’t do it right, don’t do it at all.” He was a great jokester and enjoyed the laughter of friends, family and his children. The legacy he has left us will continue forever. He touched so many lives and now God will be now saying “How’s your knees Rene?” Dad and Margaret recently celebrated their 26th wedding anniversary and their 25th in Cloverdale amongst family and friends. He so loved to see the families gather and share their lives. He was a great son to his parents (Marie and Peter Bax) now deceased. A wonderful brother to his siblings (Marie, Annie, Josephine, Joe - deceased) and survived by brothers Peter (Jackie) and Johnny (Betty) and the apple of his eye - sister Kay (Len). Predeceased by his wife Cathy, survived by his loving wife Margaret and his children, John (Terry), Heather (Ed), Robert, Bill, Rick, and Terry (Carolyn) and step children, Kathy (Ken), Janice. Grandchildren: Holly (John),Tamy (Duncan), Keleah (Ippei), Stephanie, Ryan, Preston, Terra, Chelsey, Jordan, Ty, Chris, Michelle, Jaylene (David) and Jeff (Dana) and his great grandchildren, Brad, James, Anwyn, Amber, Jessie and his great great granddaughter Sierra. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Heart Association or the Canadian Cancer Society in Rene’s memory as he battled and won the fight with cancer but lost the battle with his heart. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in Surrey, B.C.
