Polly passed away peacefully on Oct. 7 with her family and friend present.

She was born on Oct. 2, 1924 in Rhein, Saskatchewan. Mom was the oldest of 8 children. Her family moved to a farm in Barrie, Ontario in the early 30’s. She met her husband, Alex, while working as a nurses’ aid in the early 40’s and they were married on Oct. 21, 1944.

After their wedding they moved to Chilliwack, where Dad’s family was. They had 2 children, Ron in 1946 and Sharon 1948.

In 1951, the family moved to Harrison Hot Springs and opened a cafe. In 1957 Dad’s sister told him the Lone Butte Hotel was for sale and shortly after (Oct. 31) we moved to the Cariboo!!

Mom and Dad spent their remaining years here, it has always been home for them, they spent a few winters in California and Mexico. They also operated the 93 Mile Cafe and the Yellow Cafe in town and the Vacuum shop during those years. Finally retiring in 1988.

Mom and Dad were members of the Bethel Chapel and both enjoyed participating in activities that benefited third world countries and less fortunate families in the area. Mom enjoyed helping out every week at the Ladies Auxiliary Gift Shop at the Hospital in her 80’s and they both had a great time playing cribbage at the Pioneer Haven with many friends.

Mom was predeceased by her granddaughter Wendy in 2010 and husband Alex in 2013. She leaves behind her son Ron (Lety), daughter Sharon (Bill); grandchildren Billy, Tracey (Phil), Kim (Paul) and David (Carolina); great grandchildren Teri (Will), Kayde, Lyda and Adam; her good friend Valerie Brickley.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Creekside Seniors’ Center, 501 Cedar Ave. on Oct. 17, at 2 p.m.
