In loving memory ~

Born to Walter and Mary Bubenko on the family homestead in Franchere, Alberta, Mike was the 2nd eldest of 12 children. In the early 50's, Mike moved to Sharpe Lake B.C., where he began working in the forest industry. Soon after, his competitive spirit and athleticism caught the eye of Stan Halcro, who promptly recruited Mike to play 1st base for the 100 Mile Lumberman's Fastball team, and also, a position working in Stan's mill. Mike thoroughly enjoyed recounting his baseball stories, but there were a few good hockey stories as well.

In 1969, Mike started his Lineman career with BC Hydro in Dawson Creek, BC. Soon after, transferred to Quesnel, where he would raise his family. During that time, you could still find Mike at the ballpark, the curling rink, fishing, or the arena where he enjoyed his position as Equipment Manager with the Quesnel Kangaroos Sr. Men's Hockey Team.

Retiring from Hydro in 1997, Mike made the move back to 100 Mile House, as it was there that he said, "it felt like home." He enjoyed his retirement with 2 trips to Australia, one to visit Shawna while she was working there, many trips to Alberta to visit family, and a great 75th birthday trip to Las Vegas, where he sat in on a few poker tournaments. Mike always appreciated a good card game, playing in his last Monday night poker game only weeks before his passing. He definitely had a soft spot for his grandchildren, and could be found once again at the ballpark or arena spectating and quite often, there were some words of wisdom exchanged. In recent years he could be found most days with the coffee crew at the local A&W, and evenings with a Keno slip in hand.

Mike will always be remembered for his work ethic, kindness, friendship, and generosity.

Mike is survived by his daughters, Kim (Craig) of Chilliwack, BC, Shawna of West Kelowna, BC, and his grandchildren, Rylee(Leo), Marly, Chase, and Easton. Also, his siblings, Nellie, Jenny, Billy, Irene, Allen (Millie), Patricia (Nick), Bernice (Len), Shirley(Rick), Eunice(Dave), and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mike was predeceased by his sisters Anna, and Vicki, father, Walter, and mother, Mary.
