It is with great sadness we regret to announce the passing of our father, Merritt Leask, on April 10, 2017. Dad passed peacefully with family at his side at Fischer Place. Merritt is predeceased by his partner of 31 years, Donna Stewart; his parents, father, Elvin Leask; stepfather, Henry Parkes; mother, Erna; and daughter, Marcy Ann.

Merritt is survived by his children: Micheal (Crystal), Michele (Don), Mark, Wayne (Bonnie), Shawn (Christina), James; stepchildren: Dan (Sharon), Willie, Heather, Hamish (Lila), Dale (April), and Tim; sister, Betty Speer; nephew, Jim; nieces, Gail (Perry), Shirley (Ron), Joanne (Mike); and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Merritt was born in Vancouver, British Columbia. He graduated from Queen Elizabeth Secondary school in Surrey. Merritt joined the Airforce at age 17 and became a fighter pilot. He was stationed at RCAF Marville, CFB Trenton, and CFB Cold Lake. After leaving the forces, he settled back in Surrey and worked in the cedar shake mill industry. In 1970, He moved his family to the Cariboo, where he worked in the lumber mill industry. Throughout his life, Merritt, made beautiful pine furniture for friends and family, and did lots of side work in the construction and roofing industries. Merritt enjoyed hunting, fishing playing ball and golfing.

Since retiring, he spent a lot of time puttering in his flower gardens. Merritt enjoyed his almost daily walks through Centennial Park up to the falls, where he would sit and enjoy the beer he always had in his pocket.

A memorial bench is planned for placement at the falls in 100 Mile House. An announcement will be made after the placement of the bench for a gathering to celebrate Merritt’s life.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of BC or any other charity of your choice in Merritt’s name.
