1923 - 2010

It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Mary Jean Rushton in 100 Mile Hospital on January 12, 2010 at the age of 86 years.

Jean was born on October 2, 1923 in Three Hills, Alberta and was raised there. Gerald (her husband) and Jean moved to White Rock, B.C. in 1949, where she worked in the medical profession as a nurse and x-ray technician. Later, in the 1960s they settled at the 108 Mile Ranch, where Jean spent time working as a receptionist, Eventually Jean ran a nursing home from her residence extending care to the elderly in the 100 Mile Community.

Jean (as she was known) was predeceased by her husband Gerald and is survived by son Joseph (Arlene), daughters: Shelley Cryer (John), Caroll Greenwood (Mike), and stepson Gerry Rushton. Jean is also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren whom she loved and cherished in her thoughts and daily prayers.

A small graveside ceremony was held on Tuesday, Jan. 19th, 2010 at 100 Mile Cemetery. There will be two Celebration of Life Services: one in Alberta on January 30, 2010 and the other in 100 Mile House, B.C. on March 6, 2010, for all of her many family and friends.

Jean’s devotion to her family and friends and her endless prayers for God’s precious care over them will be sadly missed. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nursing staff of 100 Mile Hospital whom warmly cared for her during her illness.
