January 21, 1928 - November 2, 2024

In Loving Memory ~

Kevin Buckley Shannon, 96 3/4, passed away peacefully on November 2nd, 2024 at Nanaimo Seniors Village.

Kevin is survived by his daughters: Kerry/Petri, Sheila/Jim, and Laurel; grandchildren: Cole, Elizabeth, Amelia, Shane, Aili, Nina, Liisa, and Ryan; great grandchildren: Saryn, Amaia, Vivienne, and Lillia; and his sister Beatrice.

Kevin was predeceased by his wife of some 70 years, Eileen, whom he missed so dearly; his father, Buckley, his mother, Vera, his sister, Bonnie, and his brother, Pat.

Kevin was born in Prince Rupert, BC, on January 21st, 1928. He was really proud to be Irish until he did a DNA test and found out he was some 85 percent Scottish. His time spent in Usk working at his father's mine as a teenager fostered his love for nature and the woods that grew into a career in the forest industry which supported his family (and provided much material for bear stories).

Kevin's career included timber cruising, surveying with a hand compass, and mapping in the Prince Rupert, Terrace, Cape Breton (with one of his roads still in use today), and the Lac la Haché areas; culminating in his building and running Cariboo Pole and Piling.

He met the love of his life, Eileen, in Prince Rupert and they married in '54.

Kevin and Eileen loved to travel, first their honeymoon down the Oregon coast, several trips across Canada, two trips to Ireland, Britain, Portugal, Spain, Morocco, Turkey, and New Zealand. He was most proud of the trip taking Eileen and his girls west across Canada in 1968 (six weeks in the tent trailer). Kevin was proud to have built three houses, and a boat (which he called 'Little Leaky').

Kevin was fiercely independent, self taught with a voracious appetite for reading and telling stories; he took pride in writing and annotating his memoirs and some 300 short stories. He loved to learn and share his family history.

The family would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr Trepess, Dr Curry, and the generous and caring staff of Nanaimo Seniors Village. In lieu of flowers a donation to the Cancer Society or the BC Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
