August 22, 1934 - August 24, 2024
In loving memory ~
Josephine Ann (Wilcox) Vaugeois, known to all as Josie, passed away on August 24, 2024 - two days after her 90th birthday.
Josie was born on August 22, 1934 to the late Henry "Harry" and Margaret "Maggie" (Bryce) Wilcox. The sixth of nine children, Josie grew up on the Wilcox Farm outside of Forest Grove. While acknowledging that there was never a shortage of chores on a farm, Josie shared her memories of mostly being left to find whatever amusement could be had in the streams, fields and neighboring farms. Josie enjoyed amazing her grandchildren and great grandchildren by sharing stories of riding a horse or walking miles (naturally, through drifts of snow) to school.
It was on the Wilcox Farm that a tree faller, Claude Vaugeois, caught her eye. They married in 1954 and had three children: Lynda Grant, Arne (Susan) Vaugeois and Kim (Reg) Haggard; six grandchildren: Phil (Annabelle), Jacque (Myles), Jessie, Denis, Ginger, and Delina (Charles); and nine great grandchildren.
For her working years, Josie spent time as a book keeper and retired as a housekeeper from the 108 Resort. Josie was an accomplished athlete including track and field in her school years; and later, badminton and baseball - even earning tournament MVPs after becoming a grandmother!
Josie suffered a sudden stroke on August 21 and left this world exactly as she intended: independently living in her own home until the last day.
Josie will be fiercely missed by her remaining siblings; her ex-spouse, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren; and her friends collected over the duration of a long and happy life.
