SANNESS

James Curtis (Jim)

April 23, 1941 - Nov. 16, 2011

Jim was born in Winnipeg, the fourth of six children to Olaf and Jane Sanness. His father worked as a logger, so Jim spent much of his early life moving from place to place in Manitoba and Ontario. As a young man, Jim moved to B.C., and lived in B.C. for the rest of his life. He worked as a gas fitter and sheet metal worker in the Lower Mainland and Kamloops areas until he retired in 2000 at age 59. He moved to Sheridan Lake at that time, where he already had a number of close friends in the area. Jim became the neighborhood handyman, helping his friends and looking after some of the seasonal homes in the area. He also helped to develop the extensive ATV and snowmobile trails in the area. An active fisherman, Jim was a member of the Friends of Sheridan Lake, a group who runs the local fish ladder and maintained the spawning channel. He became a member of the Interlakes Lions Club, where he served as a director for a time. It is through the Lions club that he met his future wife, Kathy, in 2005. They married two years later in May of 2007. Jim loved fishing, camping, handyman work, and playing cards with friends.

Jim fought a long battle with cancer. His first battle was a victory, when, after a diagnosis in 2000, he was pronounced cancer-free in 2001. Unfortunately, cancer returned in 2010, and after a courageous struggle, Jim passed away in his sleep on November 16, 2011.

He is survived by his two sons, Darryl (Caroline) Sanness and Darren (Denissa) Sanness; three step-sons: Chris Coukell, Carey (Jennie) Coukell, and Sean Coukell and by his loving wife Kathy. He is also survived by three grandchildren and six step-grandchildren, as well as three sisters: Lorraine, Pat, and Bev; many nieces and nephews, and many good friends.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2011, at 2:00 p.m., at the Interlakes Hall on Highway 24.
