Jul 29, 1927 - Jan 26, 2018
We are saddened to announce the passing of Irene Maitland on January 26th 2018 in Williams Lake, B.C.

Irene was born in Vernon and later moved to Kamloops where she met and married her husband Gordon. They had 4 children; Bryan Maitland, Doug (Sue) Maitland, Judy (Laurie) Scarrow and Stuart (Cheri) Maitland.

Irene always had a love for the outdoors and she and Gordon spent a lot of time camping, hunting and shooting together; she especially loved duck hunting. Gordon had taught her how to shoot and she soon became known as the "Annie Oakley" of the Kamloops area! In 1955 they moved from Kamloops to the 100 Mile House and had acreage where Irene enjoyed gardening.

After her husband passed away in 1994, Irene ventured to Australia and Nashville among other trips and she enjoyed seeing the world. She spent the last year of her life at the Seniors Village in Williams Lake and was quite happy there.

Irene was predeceased by her son Bryan and her husband Gordon and she is survived by her children, 4 grandchildren Kent, Kurt, Josh, and Tyler and her great grandchildren.

There will be no formal service by request.

You were there when we took our first steps, And went unsteadily across the floor.

You pushed and prodded: encouraged and guided, Until our steps took us out the door...

You worry now "Are they ok?"

Is there more you could have done?

As we walk the paths of our unknown

You wonder "Where have my children gone?" Where we are is where you have led us,

With your special love you showed us a way,

To believe in ourselves and the decisions we make. Taking on the challenge of life day-to-day. And where we go you can be sure,

In spirit you shall never be alone.

For where you are is what matters most to us, Because to us that will always be home...
