Herman Dutchak passed away peacefully after a long and courageous battle with cancer on the evening of April 3, 2020 at his home in Kelowna with his loving family by his side.
Herman was born to Nellie and Metro Dutchak in Canora, Saskatchewan on July 26, 1941. After completing high school he moved to Drayton Valley where he worked on the oil rigs before joining the Royal Canadian Navy. He served in Victoria for 10 years as a marine engineer and diver. It was during this time he met Pamela Lynn Cheston. They were married on August 20, 1966 in Michel, BC. After a short stint in Prince Rupert the couple moved to 100 Mile House BC, where Herman secured a job as a stationary engineer and millwright with Weldwood of Canada, and eventually became the energy system, mobile shop and log yard superintendent for the remainder of his working 27 years.
Making 100 Mile House their home, he built and sold 5 houses and he and Pam raised their 3 lovely daughters; Kirsten, Renee, and Audrey. Herman loved to golf, fish, hunt, play hockey and spend time at their beloved cabin on Green Lake, eventually retiring and living there year round.
Herman was a proud man whose love of the the Cariboo, his family and his friends was always forefront.
Herman is predeceased by his father Metro, mother Nellie, survived by his sister Linda (Eric) Pye, his loving wife Pam of 53 years, and his 3 daughters, Kirsten (Todd) Donison, Renee (Chris) Buie, Audrey (Logan) Murphy as well as his adoring 5 grandchildren Ty and Bryson Donison, Josie and Mitchell Buie, and Landon Murphy.
Donations can be made in lieu of flowers to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.
