June 2, 2006

Dec. 26, 1913 - June 2, 2006

Born in Stockholm, Sweden. Died peacefully at 100 Mile House, B.C. Gunhild touched many hearts through her good work with the SPCA and other organizations in both 100 Mile House and North Vancouver. She was a member of the Watch Lake and District Women’s Institute as well as the founding president of a Women’s Co-op organization in Sweden. Gunhild was a creative seamstress and business partner who would recapture her life’s experiences in wonderful descriptive stories. Her fabulous baking and gingerbread houses were great fundraisers for her favourite animal causes. Gunhild is survived by her devoted husband of 74 years, Erik; her children Gun Odegard (Einar), Sven (Merrietta), Karen Forbes (Jim) and Kristina Vandervoort. Gunhild was a loving and generous grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She was predeceased by her brother Sigurd Liljehult of Sweden and grandson Arnt Odegard of Abbotsford, B.C. A special thank you to Dr. Street. A remembrance celebration of Gunhild’s life will be held for friends and family at Watch Lake Hall on Sunday, August 6 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the 100 Mile House SPCA Building Fund.
