December 26, 2007

Flo-McGuire-obit-4net

Dec. 26, 1917 - Dec. 26, 2007

Flo’s family regretfully announces that she passed away peacefully on the morning of her 90th birthday, December 26, 2007. Flo has been a resident of Fischer Place. Flo was born in Britannia Beach and raised in Port Coquitlam. Flo and Ed Hartwig moved to Archie Meadows Road in July of 1956. They built two homes there overlooking the Forest Grove Road. Ed predeceased her in 1980. Flo and Jack McGuire were married in 1984. Jack predeceased her in 2003. Flo is well remembered in the community for her involvement in the Forest Grove Women’s Institute, the Forest Grove Legion Auxiliary and for the many years she managed the Sears Mail order store in 100 Mile House. The move to the Cariboo from her Vancouver home took some adjustment as she faced her first winter here with temperatures at 64 below F, with no running water, no electricity and an outdoor “privy” it proved a test. Flo loved her gardens at both her Archie Meadows and 103 Mile homes. She loved to camp and fish. She never, ever considered leaving 100 Mile House to be nearer family as her need for more personal care increased over the past few years. 100 Mile House was her home and her friends and ties were here. Flo was always pleased to meet friends on her “out” days downtown. She was the eldest person at the 2007 Forest Grove Homecoming and was thrilled to re-acquaint with friends she had not seen in many years. Flo lived a very full 90 years. She was proud to become a 5th generation Grandparent this past spring. Cassie formed a 6th generation to Flo’s family tree, as Flo still has her own Uncle alive in Powell River, Miller Edberg. Flo will be missed very much by her three daughters and families: Lorraine (George) Goodrich, Dianne (Al) Madsen and Pat (Greg) Lee. Flo will eternally have the status of Nana to 8 grandchildren: Glenn, Kim, Chris and Eddy Goodrich, Herb and John Butler, Monica and Keith Trusler. She is Great Nana to Ryan, John and Saray, Christie and Jessie, Kacia, Candice and Melissa, Kelly, Nicole and Paul, Darion and Stryder, and Olivia; and Great-Great Nana to Cassie Jaarsma. The family wishes to extend sincerest thanks to all the caregivers at Fischer Place for their care, kindness and sensitivity. Thank you to Kathy Haveman for being Flo’s loyal friend and companion so many years. Thank you to Shirley and Harv Canning and to Kim Robison for always being there when needed. Sleep peacefully, Mom... We love you. A Memorial Service will be planned for the spring. In lieu of flowers donations to the Multiple Sclerosis Society are appreciated.
