1922-2011

Ernest “Ernie” Chester Sampson of 100 Mile House, BC, passed away peacefully with family by his side on March 30th, 2011 at the age of 88 years.

Ernie will be dearly missed by his wife Sheila (nee Scholefield) of 67 years, children: Ric (Marion), Victoria (Bert) Summers, Sharon (John) Zurch, Marie (Gary) Davidson, Steven (Ada), Daniel (Karen) and Zane; grandchildren: Tim (Kari) Sampson, Shayne (Lori) Sampson, Stephanie (Jacquy ) Pin, Troy Zurch, Lyanna (Joe) Hunt, Trina (Mark) Hunt, Derek (Jacquie) Davidson, Rachael (Stephen) Chan, Amy Sampson, Jessica Sampson, Chester Sampson; great-grandchildren: Amanda Hunt, Nathan Hunt, Charissa Hunt, Eve Roberts, J.C. Pin, Veronica Pin, Cody Chan, Kyle Chan and Jacob Sampson; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Ernie was born on Salt Spring Island in 1922, where he met Sheila, whom he married in 1943. They lived in Duncan for a few years before moving to 100 Mile House in 1961, where he was employed by BC Hydro and retired after 30 years.

His life was full and varied. He was president of the 100 Mile Community Hall, President of the Royal Canadian Legion #260, an ambulance driver, firefighter, hockey coach and president of the BC Hydro Pioneers. Ernie was a veteran of World War 2, serving in the Navy from 1939 – 1945. He also enjoyed curling, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends.

Dad, you will be dearly missed. The family would like to thank Dr. R. Dickie and the nurses and doctors at the 100 Mile and District Hospital.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 9th, 2011 at the 100 Mile Community Hall at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations are to be made to the charity of your choice.
