Jun 7, 1920 - Dec 1, 2017
Elizabeth Place, known to all as "Betty", passed peacefully in the 100 Mile District General Hospital on December 1, 2017.

Betty was born at home, June 7, 1920 in Revelstoke, BC. She lived in the Coquihalla Pass at a whistlestop called Romeo while her father, Jasper Fuoco, worked at the Kettle Valley Railroad. Her fondest memories of her time there were climbing the mountains in this famous area and sharing the berries with the bears. At age 16, Betty moved to Vancouver and worked for a short time as a domestic. Later in Merritt, she worked for the Adelphi Hotel and then moved onto Williams Lake and started at the Lakeview Hotel. This is where she met Geoffrey Place and they married in 1944.

They lived at the Dog Creek Ranch, Geoff running the Dog Creek Stage, later onto the Dog Creek Airport where Geoff drove school bus to Williams Lake and Betty worked for the D.O.T., then, in 1951, they moved into Williams Lake. In the 1970's Geoff and Betty made their home on Lac La Hache.

She played guitar, mouth organ and she loved to whistle. She picked up the paint brush at age 88 and painted her first landscape; her career as an artist began.

She is survived by her children, Denise (Bob, deceased) Ferguson, Gregory (Cheryl) Place, Charlene (Doug) Place; and her stepson Courtney (Patricia) Place; her five grandchildren, Robert (Krista) Ferguson, Rhiannon Deloise, Byron (Raegan) Place, Lori (Ron) Brown, and Sanford (Susan) Place; her eleven great grandchildren, Delaney, Cole, Trey, Macey, Geoffrey, Justin, Everett, Crawford, Kyla (Ryan) Underhill, Maggie, and Jacob. Elizabeth was blessed with one great-great grandchild, Bryleigh Underhill.

Betty's husband, Geoff, predeceased her January, 1987.

A memorial for Betty will be held sometime during next summer.

The family wishes to thank the staff of 100 Mile District General Hospital for their loving care and compassion.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the SPCA.
