Jan. 11, 1934 - Aug. 10, 2015

Doreen was born on January 11, 1934 in Lac Vert, Saskatchewan, the first born of Melvin and Bernice Bloomquist. She came to BC with her family in 1956 and remained in the Cariboo, where she married Peter Popadinac in 1958. They followed the sawmills to various locations throughout the Cariboo as their family grew.

In 1969, they made their home in 100 Mile House, where, aside from looking after her family, Doreen became a busy “hockey mom” and an active member of the Minor Hockey Auxiliary. She bowled for years, enjoying the time spent with friends; and as a TOPS member, she had many fond memories of travelling the province with her TOPS’ pals.

Doreen’s favourite time of year was New Year’s Eve. She was unashamedly selfish about this “kid free” time with her friends; she loved to get all dressed up to go out dancing.

Again, following Pete’s work, they moved to Williams Lake in the early 80’s for a decade or so before eventually retiring to her much loved lake property at Lac la Hache.

Doreen’s life really was all about family and friends. Her home was a hive of activity with many hours spent playing cards with friends, preparing meals for special occasions, and “parenting” the many kids who were always welcome in her home. In addition to her family and friends, Doreen’s life was always filled with animals; from the horses of her childhood and youth, to her “hobby farm” in Tatton, to the numerous cats and dogs that came and went.

Doreen was pre-deceased by her parents and her husband. Doreen is survived by her children Debbie, Gordon, Dianne, Gerald and Duanne; as well as her daughter-in-law Debbie (Duanne), her grandchildren Jessica and Justin (Gerald), Brody (Gordon), Derek and Lauren (Duanne & Debbie) and Nathan (Debbie), her great-granddaughter, Dezirae (Brody), her Aunt Dorothy and her sisters Laverne (McLean), Elaine (Dennis), and Marlene Bloomquist. Doreen’s life was also blessed by what we would call her adopted son, Tommy Dolinski and her adopted daughter, Patty Hurry.

Through it all Doreen would say her life was never boring!
