Dennis Vernon AHIERS

March 19, 2007

Born in Victoria on April 14, 1924. Passed away on March 19, 2007, at Trillium Lodge in Parksville. Survived by his daughters, Veronica (Nathen), Karen (Peter), and Karla; sons, Lance (Marguerite), Rod (Jane), Eddie, and Trevor; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his parents, Vern and Iris; his fourth wife, Jackie; and his daughter, Carmen. Dennis joined the Royal Canadian Navy at 17 and spent his early adult years on the ships. After leaving the Navy, he became a Cat operator and worked on many road-building crews throughout British Columbia until the late 1980s. He and Jackie moved to 100 Mile House in 1971 and he resided there until early March 2007 when he was relocated from Fischer Place extended care residence to Trillium Lodge, to be closer to his immediate family. Like his parents, he loved gardening and the opportunity it gave him to connect with nature. He also loved the outdoors and animals, had a polite demeanour, a quick wit and a great sense of humour. Thanks to staff at Fischer Place and Trillium Lodge for their care, patience and efforts to make him comfortable during his stay at their facilities. Thanks also to Dr. Nicolson and Dennis’ friend, Noreen (both from 100 Mile House), for their support and friendship during his most recent difficult times. The Royal Canadian Legion in Parksville will honour his military service, and his ashes will be interred at a family gathering – both to be held at a later date.
