November 11, 1954 - November 21, 2021
David Paul Shields, 67, of Williams Lake, B.C., died in his home November 21, 2021, with family at his side.
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our big brother David Shields.
Dave was born November 11, 1954, at Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster, B.C. He spent his early childhood in Coquitlam, attending Millside Elementary School. At the age of 14, he moved with his family to the Cariboo and settled into the 100 Mile House area.
At an early age, Dave was drawn into sports and enjoyed both hockey and soccer. As time went by, his love of music became apparent. He was a kick-ass drummer and started a band with some friends in the neighbourhood. One of the bands he started was called Cariboo Trucking. Music artists who influenced his band's style of music included the likes of John Bohham, Dave Grohl, and Gene Krupa. Cariboo Trucking went on to play at different venues throughout the Cariboo area, and he enjoyed every minute of it.
Over time, Dave continued to play the drums and collect music in the form of records and CD's. His knowledge of musicians and bands was phenomenal. If you had the chance to talk with him, he would talk your ear off and test your knowledge of music over the past 40 to 50 years. It was his sharp powers of recollection and kind spirit that made him strong until the time of his passing. His favourite band was Ten Years After, and his favourite artist was Robert Plant.
David is pre-deceased by his parents, David and Anna Shields. He leaves behind a family of brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews: Mark, Paul, Linda, Shawn, Ashley, Camron, Kadyn, Hunter, Tyler, Jenna, Brady, Lachlan, Josephine, Anna, Doyle, Anna Lisa, Gordon, Kelly, Jordan, Baylee, and Lisa.
Words cannot express how much we miss him. His great sense of humour and conversation will be remembered forever. His unique ability to draw family and friends together will be missed dearly.
See you again brother. See you on the other side.
