In loving memory ~

Cornelius Gerardus Jongbloets, or "Cor and Broer" to everyone who knew him, passed away peacefully at the age of 97 with family members at his side on May 9, 2024 in 100 Mile House.

Always ready with a joke or interesting story of life in Holland during the Second World War, Cor was never without something to say. He married the love of his life, Hendrika Kuijpers in 1950 and 1957, along with their young children, Elly and Tony, came to Canada aboard the emigrant ship, Waterman.

In the early part of their journey, the Waterman and an Italian oil tanker collided in a dense fog, leaving the two ships to limp back to France where Cor and his little family boarded the S.S. Zuiderkruis to continue the voyage. They found a new home in Vancouver where Cor worked at the Weldwood plywood plant until retiring in 1985 and beginning a new chapter in their log cabin at 83 Mile. He and Hendrika embraced life in the Cariboo, filling their days with hunting, fishing, exploring with their truck and trailer and growing an amazing garden each summer.

For several years they were avid square dancers and members of the 70 Mile Rip 'n Snorters club where they made many long-lasting friendships. When cutting firewood finally became too much, they slowed their pace and made a well-deserved move to 100 Mile House. Cor had a great love for his grandchildren, building them a beautiful playhouse in the yard and many wooden trunks and toys. Later on, his great-grandchildren were his trophy for a life well lived.

Cor has a family who loved him very much and left behind to remember him are his daughter, Launi Taylor (Justen), son, Tony Jongbloets (Arlene) and grandchildren Angela Taylor (Rob), Michelle Lewthwaite (Matt, Evelyn), Tessa Inkster (Travis, Zoey, Lyla), and Scott Jongbloets (Kristen, Liam, Kellen). He will be greatly missed but we take comfort in knowing he is now with his beloved Hendrika who passed in 2022.

Many thanks to the caring staff at Fischer Place who laughed at Cor's jokes and made his time there as good as it could be.
