Bernie

June 9, 1961 - Dec. 8, 2007

Bernie passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Comox, B.C., Saturday, December 8, 2007. Our family wishes to thank the medical team whose care of Bernie and for each of us was exceptional. Bernie was born in Toronto, Ontario but his love of the ocean and desire to be near his mother and sisters brought him to Vancouver in the mid 1980s. While Bernie’s education was in the sciences at McMaster University, he had a very successful career in management at BC Packers, Royal Sea Farms, and Heritage Fish Farms. His last four years in business were spent running several holding companies with great success while living in 100 Mile House, BC. Bernie missed the coast and he returned to Courtenay, BC in September 2006. An avid adrenalin seeker, Bernie enjoyed boating, scuba diving, motocross and horseback riding. His loving spirit, friendship and great sense of humour will not be forgotten. Bernie left us much too soon and will be deeply missed by his parents Joy and Bob Newall (Nanaimo, BC), sister Wendy Kearnes and family (Bridgetown, NS), sister Michele Hansen and family (Mill Bay, BC), along with many good friends and his puppy Max. Friends and family will gather for a Celebration of Life, Saturday December 22, 2007 in Nanaimo, BC. If so desired, donations may be made in memory of Bernie to the Comox Valley Marine Rescue, PO Box 10056, Comox, BC V9M 3S5 or through the website at: http://www.canadahelps.org/GivingPages/GivingPage.aspx?gpID=1160

“What lies before us and what lies behind us are small matters compared to what lies within us.

And when we bring what is within us out into the world, miracles happen”
