March 21, 1928 - October 15, 2019
It is with sadness that the family of Audrey Smith (nee Wightman) announce her passing on October 15, 2019 at age 91.
Audrey lived a very full life, beginning with her birth in Brandon, Manitoba on March 21, 1928. She moved across the country and eventually met Larry Smith, the love of her life. The two wed on September 1, 1951, had three children and many great adventures together. In the late 70s the pair purchased Hazel Mist Ranch in Lac La Hache and settled into their Cariboo dream. For years, Audrey and Larry ran summer camps and equestrian events. During her years at Hazel Mist, Audrey's deep faith and love of God led her to treasure the opportunity of providing a loving home to many beloved foster children and teens.
Audrey said her final goodbye to her dear husband on April 15, 1998, and dedicated her time to supporting the 100 Mile Performing Arts community and being a spirited proponent of animal rights and the BCSPCA. Audrey was feisty, beating Multiple Myeloma into remission in her 80s. A traveler and avid cruiser in her last years, Audrey celebrated her 80th birthday in Mexico and her 90th in the Caribbean.
She then settled into Fisher place and the loving care of the nursing staff in E wing and Dr. Nicholson. Audrey was not afraid to die and she passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord.
Audrey is survived by her children, Stewart (Trish), Susan (Mel) and Shelly (Carel), 16 grandchildren (and their spouses), and 30 great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Audrey's memory to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF).
