Arthur (Art) John BUMPHREY

October 10, 2006

1914 - 2006

The family of Arthur (Art) Bumphrey is grieving his unexpected and tragic death, which occurred on Tuesday, October 10, 2006. Better known as “Gramps” to his family, Art was born in Moose Jaw, Sask. on January 25, 1914 to Leslie and Florence Bumphrey, and was the oldest of nine children. He was forever concerned with others and gave of himself without reserve. Despite hardships, Art was always able to maintain his kind and generous nature, which was evident to everyone he knew. Art wed Dorothy Winn. They were blessed with a son, Jim, followed by a daughter, Bev. Art was a multi-talented man, equally adept as a mechanic, carpenter, farmer and more; yet always humble about his abilities. Art moved to 70 Mile House, BC, and over several years built a beautiful cedar home, a thriving garden and made many good friends. In 1993, Art moved to Calgary to live with his daughter Bev and family where he resided until his passing. Art was truly an exceptional man! His quiet wisdom and playful demeanour touched three generations of children who will always hold him close to their heart. He particularly enjoyed creating toys and furniture for his little ones. Many a baby has been rocked to sleep in his lovingly crafted cradles. Art was a true storyteller. His family and friends can find his legacy in the remembrance of those stories. Left to mourn Art’s loss are a son-in-law Ed Winters; daughter-in-law Marilyn (George) Dalzell; grandchildren, Mike (Sheri) Bumphrey, Sandi (Norm) Sirois, Shawn (Leah) Bumphrey, Tim Winters, and Devon (Kristiana) Winters; fifteen great-grandchildren, Eric, Josée, Max, Dane, Jacinta, Myles and Sam Bumphrey, Nicholas, Alexandra and Christian Sirois, Fletcher, Jonah and Peter Bumphrey, and Fynn and Teague Winters. Art also leaves to mourn his sisters, Ada, Hazel, Irene, and Marge; brother-in-law Bob (Mary) Winn; and many friends. Art was predeceased by his wife Dorothy in 2002; beloved son Jim, in 1987; brothers, Gord, Norm and Al; and sister Dora.
