It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our loved and loving mother Arja T. Bird. She was unexpectedly taken from us in a fire at her home in Lone Butte, BC on September 7, 2009 around 3:00am. She was predeceased by her loving husband Curtis and father Toivo Leskinen. Arja is survived and very much missed by her three sons: Stewart Bird (Nicole), Curtis Bird Jr. (Helen), and Colin Bird (Kezia); her mother Onerva Leskinen, two brothers: Tapio Merivirta (Susan) and Juha Leskinen (Stella), two sisters: Marie Christie and Debbie Dame (Dale), dear friend Brian, her one grandchild, nieces, nephews and countless friends. We love you mom and we will miss your loving, caring ways forever. We pray that you are comfortable and that you rest in peace knowing you did a wonderful job of being our mother and were a great influence on the kind of people we are today. For this we will always be thankful. A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, October 3, 2009 in the Valley Room. In lieu of flowers or cards, the family recommends a donation in Arja’s memory to the charity of your choice. We would like to express our great appreciation to the 100 Mile House RCMP and the Lone Butte VFD for their efforts. We also extend this thanks to any others we may have overlooked for their help with this tragic event.
