June 24, 1935 - October 2, 2022
It is with deep sadness and great love that we announce the passing of Antonio Costa, beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend, and neighbour, who passed peacefully at 100 Mile District General Hospital on October 2, 2022 at the age of 87 with his family by his side.
"Tony" was born in Friães, Portugal on June 24, 1935 to a large and loving family.
He was predeceased by three siblings, Senorinha, Manuel and Albino, and is survived by two brothers in Portugal, Alfredo and Augusto.
Antonio wanted to explore beyond his homeland and moved to Montreal where he graduated from the Institut d'Orientation des Metiers du Quebec in 1963. A few years later he relocated to 100 Mile House.
He travelled extensively throughout the province, country and world, and visited Portugal often to be with his family and dear friends.
After courting his future wife Ilda through visits and letters from across the world, Antonio traveled to Australia where he and Ilda were married on November 18, 1972. They traveled throughout the Pacific on a two-months-long honeymoon before settling in 100 Mile House.
Here, they raised their daughter and son, who remember their farther as a strong and deeply caring man. He enabled his children to pursue their passions however he could, whether that meant flooding the backyard for a hockey rink and being the scheduler for the local minor hockey association, or supporting school activities and attending many Festival of the Arts recitals.
Tony was a devoted man to his church and community, always lending a hand to the community at large, the parish, his neighbours and friends. He was an avid gardener and took great care of the place he called home. He is remembered for his huge heart and his physical and mental strength, which he had right up until the end of his full life.
He is survived by his loving wife Ilda Costa (née Cima), daughter Christine (Jason), son Anthony (Carmen), and grandson Theodore, whom he adored.
A celebration of Antonio's life will be held at St. Jude Catholic Church on Saturday, October 15, 2022 at 1:00 pm. Mass will be held with a reception to follow, so memories can be shared and glasses raised in honour of Tony's life, as he would have wanted. Donations may be made in Antonio's honour to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation.
