April 10, 1926 – August 23, 2019
Anna Johanna Johnson passed away peacefully in Richmond, B.C. on Friday, August 23, 2019 at the age of 93.
Anna was born on April 10, 1926 in Klejtrup, Denmark to Kristian and Marie Serup, the fifth of seven children born in their farmhouse. In 1954 Anna followed her brother Svend to Canada, staying for two years, before returning to Denmark. By 1957, Anna had decided Canada was her future and set off on her third transatlantic crossing. After a summer working on Savary Island, she settled in 100 Mile House to work at the Exeter Arms Hotel. In 1958 Anna moved to Buffalo Creek with husband Len, where she lived for 47 years, before moving to 100 Mile House for 6 years and then Richmond B.C. for the past 8 years.
Anna had a strong work ethic and many will remember her from the Four Seasons Restaurant where she worked for more than 20 years. She loved baking, gardening, travelling, knitting and crossstitch, and for many years she was an active member of the Women’s Institute. Anna also loved her Danish homeland and returned to visit Denmark every 4 or 5 years.
Anna is survived by son Danny Johnson (Ikumi), daughter Darlene Sillery (David) and stepsons Stephen Johnson (Anna) and Wayne Johnson (Sharon). She will also be sadly missed by her grandchildren Nikki Johnson and Tyler Johnson, sister Nora Serup, sister-in-laws Anna Serup and Eunice Johnson, and several nieces and nephews in Canada, England and Denmark. Anna was predeceased by husband Leonard Johnson, son Kenneth Johnson (Bonnie), stepson Darryl Johnson (Nan), siblings Kristine Serup, Frode Serup, Mary Korsgaard, Svend Serup and Anker Serup, and nephew Claus Korsgaard and niece Judy Johnson.
