MLA Donna Barnett presented Ava and Sophie Rywaczuk with a cheque for $50,000 towards building a water park in 100 Mile House.

Jamie Hughes-Rywaczuk, one of the drivers and organizers for the water park, says to build a decent size park they need $220,000 which would include engineering and contingencies.

"In total, we've gotten $110,000 from the province," she says. "Outstanding, to be safe, is an additional $30,000 ... That would cover engineering fees, contingent fees and throw in a bench or something. We just need to be safe. We can't have overrun because there's no one to pay for it."

She says it's difficult to understand how expensive these parks are.

"We're still applying for grants. We are going to fundraise. We're not sure what we're going to do yet as far as fundraising as we are pretty small; there's only four of us. We are going to do our best to do some fundraising. We do have the GoFundMe page," says Rywaczuk. "We had the idea of seeing if local businesses wanted to sponsor a sprayer."

Construction of the water park will for sure start in the Spring of 2018; step one is the lift station, which has to be built first and is slated for this spring by the Cariboo Regional District, Rywaczuk adds.

"This has been a community effort and we can finish this off as a community and we encourage people to come forward with any tips or ideas."

Rywaczuk says that if people want to donate they can donate directly into the account at the credit union.
