The South Cariboo Visitor Centre (SCVC) is helping the community of 100 Mile House get on the BeadTrails map with its very own stage coach charm.

The BeadTrails experience offers the ultimate self-guided tour of the province for story lovers and fun seekers through the collection of specialized community specific beads.

Participants get started by getting their map and bracelet from participating visitor info centres and businesses. Next, participants will set off to collect beads from each community they visit, exploring new landscapes and neighbourhoods in the process via their brochure or the interactive online map.

Eventually, a participant will have created their own Memory Bracelet full of meaningful beads collected from over 20 communities throughout the province.

Julie Gilmore is the manager of the SCVC, and is excited to be putting the South Cariboo on the BeadTrails map.

“I first heard about it a few years ago,” said Gilmore. “A local came in and asked about it. She had been collecting the charms. She gave me the information and I contacted BeadTrails.”

Gilmore explained her hopes to represent the South Cariboo by creating a bead for 100 Mile House, as the BeadTrails map has predominantly featured communities in the Okanagan so far: “I hope it opens up our corridor and puts the South Cariboo on the map.”

Gilmore is currently in the design stages with BeadTrails and is working to complete a stage coach charm that will be available for purchase in 100 Mile House at the Visitor Centre. Gilmore hopes the design process will be completed within the next month or so and that eventually, other local businesses will be able to participate with unique beads of their own.
