Smoother roads in Cariboo

Motorist should slow down while drivers get used to new configuration

Motorists will see smoother roads for a section of Highway 97 in the Cariboo, now that a project to resurface 21 kilometres of the highway is completed.

This resurfacing project from the Big Bar Rest Area outside Clinton to Willow Drive in 70 Mile House, including 1.6 kilometres of Chasm Road from the south end junction of Highway 97 to the Chasm Mill access, says Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Todd Stone.

Dawson Construction from Kelowna was awarded the $3.4 million project.

“Highway 97 is a critical link in the province’s road inventory,” Fraser-Nicola MLA Jackie Tegart says. “It is important we keep up with these improvements, while we continue to prioritize four-laning the Cariboo Connector from Cache Creek to Prince George.”

The project through the 70 Mile House corridor includes three left-hand turn lanes.

Motorist should slow down until they learn the new configuration that will provide safer turning options for area residents.
