Storage shed on Alpine Avenue lost in early morning blaze

The fire was reported on Monday, Jan. 13 and was contained to a shop on Alpine Avenue

100 Mile Fire Rescue firefighters were up early on Monday, Jan. 13 fighting a structure fire on Alpine Avenue.

100 Mile Fire Rescue chief Dave Bissat said his crews responded to reports of the fire just after 3 a.m. On arrival, Bissat said the shop at the backside of the Alpine Avenue property was completely engulfed in flames.

"Crews worked swiftly and diligently to knock down the fire and keep it from spreading to nearby structures and other properties," Bissat said. "There were no occupants in this building."

After the fire was knocked down, Bissat said crews remained on site throughout the early hours of the morning. The shop was a large structure and several large vehicles were inside it at the time of the blaze. In total four apparatuses and 15 personnel attended the event and left the scene at 7:30 a.m.

Bissat said the cause of this fire remains under investigation. He confirmed that while located near two businesses, the shop belonged to the property owner and was being used for personal storage.

"100 Mile Fire Rescue would like to remind everyone that if you have a fire, you should evacuate the building and call 911 immediately and do not go back inside the building," Bissat said, adding that having an early fire detection system like a smoke alarm saves lives and can prevent property loss.

Anyone with information on the fire is asked to contact 100 Mile Fire Rescue at 250-395-2152.
