Several power outages reported in Cariboo Chilcotin as strong winds persist

More than 1,400 without power, hydro crews enroute

BC Hydro crews in Williams Lake and 100 Mile House are responding to several power outages Friday, Dec. 14.

As of 1:20 p.m. in the 100 Mile House area, more than 1,600 were without power.

Areas affected include smaller outages at Lac la Hache and Highway 24, with larger outages impacting hydro customers in the areas of Horse Lake (1,049 customers) and also south of Watch Lake in the Green Lake area (558).

Friday morning there were six power outages impacting more than 1,400 customers in areas that cover much of the Cariboo Chilcotin east and west of Williams Lake, including Tatla Lake, Alexis Creek, Big Lake, Valley Road, north and south of Black Creek Road and Beaver Valley.

Power have been restored to the large outages out west such as Tatla Lake and Alexis Creek, while smaller outages remain in the Rose Lake (64 customers) and Gavin Lake (59 customers) and Black Creek areas (29 customers), due to downed trees across the lines.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the area warning of high winds which could reach up to 80 km/hour.
