Seven new lightning-caused fires have started in the South Cariboo, but according to the BC Wildfire Services, the majority are either under control or being held as of Tuesday afternoon.

All the fires were listed as under one hectare in size, with the fire near Flat Lake listed as under control and fires at Bullock Lake and 59 Mile Creek listed as being held. A small spot fire at the end of Horse Lake Road North is still listed as out of control, but information officer Jessica Mack said it was being actioned by air tankers.

Two other listed fires, near Lightning Lake and Lake of the Trees, were not immediately found by wildfire crews, and Mack said a further assessment would take place to determine their status.
