Search successful at 83 Mile

South Cariboo Search and Rescue (SAR) was called out to assist Clinton RCMP in a search effort on Nov. 16.

South Cariboo Search and Rescue (SAR) was called out to assist Clinton RCMP in a search effort on Nov. 16.

SAR search manager James Seeley says the call for mutual aid came in at 5:30 a.m. on the very cold and blustery morning.

A 30-year-old man was reported overdue to return from the bush at Bullock Road near 83 Mile House, he explains.

Seeley dispatched 13 members and three ATVs to join in the search, establishing a ground tracking team in the bush and a containment search on surrounding roads and trails.

An RCMP dog unit arrived later in the morning and assisted with tracking duties, he notes, and then Provincial Emergency Program was called to deploy aircraft and spotters from Williams Lake.

Ground crews continued combing the area until the man was located about 11 a.m. and taken to hospital for evaluation.

The en route plane and air team was called off.
