Garbage strewn about less than a kilometre from Interlakes landfill is an eyesore and can damage the environment.

Driving through our area in the South Cariboo, do you ever wonder what's out there?

Well, for one thing, there is garbage – a lot of garbage.

"A dump site, consisting of tarps, propane bottles, chairs, a tent and more, was discovered on [April 17], says Conservation Officer Colin Kravontka.

He adds the garbage pile was less than one kilometre from the Interlakes landfill.

"It was dumped on an old road approximately 10-15 metres off the paved road, in plain view."

It is frustrating with the amount of dump sites found in 100 Mile House and area Kravontka says, adding there are transfer stations and landfills just minutes up and down the road.

If folks notice people dumping their trash along the road or in the bushes, they are asked to call RAPP at 1-877-952-7277, or report it online at www.env.gov.bc.ca.

Kravontka says callers do not need to leave their names.
