The Forest Grove Cemetery at the top of Auld Drive has undergone an extensive cleanup

While the official ceremony on Nov. 11 saw record attendance at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 261-Forest Grove, the Forest Grove Elementary School put on its own Remembrance Day service on Nov. 7 with the accolade – a tribute to all the brave veterans who risked their lives in past and present, so we might have a future.

Both services were incredibly moving and included guest speakers – Doug Smith recounted a childhood experience for the students and Marianne Van Osch reminded all attendees that soldiers and veterans need to be acknowledged, whether they served abroad or not.

Legion news

The annual potluck lunch of the 50+ Club is scheduled for Dec. 17, starting at noon and everyone is welcome.

94 Lions update

The 2014/15 curling season got off to a great start on Nov. 12, with eight teams now curling every Wednesday and Friday evening at 7 p.m.

New carpeting along the “sidewalks” will be added shortly and the new ice plant is operating perfectly.

Money received from the Northern Development Investment Trust, the federal government Western Infrastructure Investment Fund and the New Horizons for Seniors Foundation made the purchase of this ice plant possible.

Ongoing operations are supported by the Cariboo Regional District.

In addition to the new outhouses, further improvements are “in the works” at Ruth Lake Park. The application for a grant is currently pending which would help update the picnic shelter.

The Forest Grove 94 Lions are also still encouraging every household in the area to obtain reflective address signs. For more information and to obtain an application form, contact Dale Gent at 250-397-2837.
