It was cloudy, chilly and it rained a bit. The runners loved it.

The Second Annual Cariboo Spring 10-km Run, Relay or Walk Around the Lakes saw 41 entries on May 10.

The event started at the 108 Mile Heritage Site and included a five-kilometre walk and 5/5-km relay for teams of two.

Andrea Flett was the fastest female in the 10-km run with a time of 44 minutes 21 seconds.

Wade Balbirnie was the fastest male to cross the line with a time of 41 minutes 10 seconds. His son Brendan Balbirnie finished seven seconds behind him.

Kam Taylor of Focused Fitness is the organizer.

“All in all, it was the perfect temperature [for the runners],” he says of the cool conditions. “As for the people standing around and walking, not so much.”

The event raised $715 for the 100 Mile District Hospice Palliative Care Society.

“Hopefully, we have more entries next year. We took every constructive criticism from the first year we did it and applied it and there were no complaints [this year].

“We heard a lot of positive feedback. We're going to keep this going strong for the next years to come.”
