Lac la Hache Volunteer Fire Department (LLHVFD) received a callout for a structure fire in the community around noon on Aug. 14.

Mutual aid was called in and the Greeny Lake and 108 Mile Ranch volunteer fire departments responded with firefighters and equipment.

In total, 20 firefighters did an exterior attack on the building, LLHVFD fire chief Terry Murphy says, adding a family member had left a pot on the stove and nobody was home when crews arrived.

While there hasn't been a fire investigation as of Tuesday, Murphy suggests the fire from the pot could have travelled up the kitchen wall, through the ceiling and into the rafters.

It was extinguished from outside of the building.

Murphy adds there were no firefighter injuries and the building was saved.
