A new booklet is available to guide parents, caregivers, children and youths to the services they may need or want to know about.

Produced by the Cariboo Family Enrichment Centre (CFEC), Success by Six and the Free Press, the directory is geared for children from birth to six years old.

It also includes a lot of information on services in the South Cariboo related to older children and youths, which can also be beneficial to local families.

The booklet provides basic details on many programs for parents of babies and young children, including Dads and Tots, Early Years Programs, Kindergym, Parent Info Sessions, Grandparents raising Grandchildren, Parents Helping Parents, and Baby and Me.

Educational help is offered locally with speech and language, literacy and library programs, learning adventures, tutoring for young and old, and schools and bus listings.

Activities for youths offered by the Youth Zone and access to child-care providers across the South Cariboo are also covered.

Sports and exercise programs in the directory include softball, swimming lessons, skating, hockey and youth curling and Tumble Time for tots help keep children of all ages active.

Counselling is accessible for women, men and youth, and covers child development and youth employment programs, family support services, skills upgrading, and support for fostering, mental health, and Complex Developmental and Behavioural Conditions (CDBC).

Health and food outreach programs from food banks and free homemade soup to the community kitchen, garden and Good Food Box to dieticians and health nurses are also right at hand.

Free and loaner items obtainable to support pregnant women, young parents and caregivers in the community, and support geared specifically for mothers are also listed.

Some of the programs require registration but many are drop-in and others offer home visitations, so pick up the Children's Services Directory at CFEC at 1-486 Birch Ave., and browse to find the programs that fit you or your family.
