The Cariboo Regional District has issued a boil water order for the Horse Lake water system.
The notice was issued on Wednesday, May 21, with the CRD noting that this boil water notice is a precautionary measure. The CRD said this notice was implemented after the Horse Lake water system was shut off for a period of time due to "unforeseen issues during recent routine maintenance."
The Horse Lake water system is also currently under a water quality advisory due to manganese concentrations which exceed the Canadian Drinking Water Guidelines. As a result, boiling water may increase the manganese levels in the water. The CRD recommends using an alternate source of water, such as bottled water, for preparing baby formula for infants or food and drink for young children.
Users of the Horse Lake water system are recommended to bring water to a rolling boil for a minimum of one minute before using water from the system to drink, cook, brush teeth, wash dishes, water animals and wash fruits and vegetables. The CRD also requests people use handsantizer after washing their hands.
This advisory will be in effect until a test of the water system returns a favourable result. Anyone with questions or concerns about the boil water advisory is invited to contact the CRD's Environmental Services at 1-800-665-1636 during regular office hours.
